EA Sets Battlefield 4 Release Date

Electronic Arts

(
EA

) has set Oct 29 as the release date of its anticipated action
game,
Battlefield 4

. In addition to the current breed of game consoles available,
from
Microsoft

(
MSFT

) and
Sony

(
SNE

), EA’s
Battlefield 4

can be played on the new gaming consoles, namely Xbox One and
PS4.

Battlefield 4

is developed by DICE, an EA studio, and the game is powered by
the latest Frostbite 3 engine. The game boasts upgraded levels of
game play, stunning visual effects and sound mechanisms.
Battlefield 4

can be played in both single-player and multiplayer campaign
modes.

EA announced that players who preorder
Battlefield 4

will receive a premium expansion pack,
Battlefield 4 China Rising

. Additionally, gamers who preorder the exclusive edition named
Battlefield 4 Digital Deluxe

from Origin will be entitled to get the base game, in-game items
and the expansion pack. Moreover, gamers can get an access to the
beta version of
Battlefield 4

set to be released in the fall of 2013.

EA’s Battlefield has been one of its most successful
franchises and has more than 65 million players worldwide. The
last installment of the series was
Battlefield 3: End game

, an expansion pack of the original
Battlefield 3

, and had been rated very highly by Metacritic. Moreover, almost
all the recently released games and expansion packs of the
Battlefield series have generated decent sales.

We believe that
Battlefield 4

will likely set the bar a notch higher with its latest
technology, Frostbite 3 engine, and innovative game play.
Moreover, EA’s massive fan following and a possible holiday
season release of the game will likely be the positives for the
company.

Additionally, we believe that EA’s high-quality titles and a
robust product pipeline along with increasing online exposure and
traction in the social and mobile gaming market will boost its
top line over the long term.

However, we remain cautious on EA due to sluggish consumer
spending on packaged video games, dismal video game sales and
increasing competition from
Activision

(
ATVI

).

Currently, EA has a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).

Battlefield girls win Virginia AAA Northwest Section pretension in lacrosse

Seven Battlefield players scored, and defenders were able to keep prolific Osbourn Park junior Corinne Wessels from doing excessive damage (thanks in part to the star player sitting out about a quarter of the game after being issued her second yellow card).

“Today’s game probably is my favorite game that we’ve played yet this season,” said Wescott, who led the Bobcats with five goals. “We had a lot of communication. Every ground ball we were the first to it. Honestly, we just played really smart, and that was probably my favorite part about this game. We took our time when we needed to. We ran the ball when we needed to.”

“This was our best teamwork game, so it was a lot of fun,” said senior Faith Wells, who scored four goals. “And it’s good to win a trophy.”

Senior Emilie Barbosa added three goals and an assist, senior Sierra DeBord had two goals and two assists and junior Ryann Waltz and senior Tori Clark also scored twice each.

Battlefield will enter the state tournament as the top seed from the Northwest Section and will host a game June 1. Osbourn Park also had qualified for a state berth by reaching the section final.

The Yellow Jackets have lost to Battlefield in the past four postseasons by four goals, then two, then one last season. This one seemed like it might be another tight finish until Wessels, with her team trailing, 11-8, picked up her second yellow card with 11 minutes 39 seconds left. Battlefield scored five of the next six goals to pull away.

“It’s like when a backup quarterback goes in and all of a sudden everybody’s like: We’ve got this,” Lilley said. “That wasn’t the case.”

“We were just so close,” said Wessels, who stewed on the sideline after leaving the game. “It’s probably the hardest thing I’ve done in my life. It was like a personal game also because this is the third time I’ve lost to them.” . . .

The Battlefield boys also won the Virginia AAA Northwest Section title, holding off Broad Run, 10-6, for their second straight crown.

The Bobcats (19-0) scored four goals in both the first and third quarters, with senior Ryan Swingle finding the net twice in each of those periods. Junior Zach Windsor had two assists in the first quarter, and senior Michael Hanlon had two goals and an assist in the third period.

The game was delayed for about 20 minutes in the fourth quarter when sophomore Anthony Fraga was struck in the back of the head by a Swingle shot. Fraga was taken away by ambulance as a precaution but was moving all of his extremities and seemed okay, Battlefield Coach Kevin Marsh said.

In the AA Northern Section, the Woodgrove
girls defeated Tuscarora

, 11-3, in a game that was suspended Wednesday in progress. The Wolverines will host Loudoun Valley (16-3) in Friday’s final.

On the boys’ side,
Woodgrove

upset top seed

Loudoun County, 13-9, in another game that was picked up in progress. The Wolverines will travel to Dominion (13-5) for Friday’s final.

Battlefield 3 double XP eventuality starts today, runs to Monday

Battlefield 3 loves a good multiplayer event, but the whopping 96-hour double XP event planed for the beginning of May had to be postponed when the game’s servers were hit by a DDOS attack. Everyone loves a good multiplayer shindig, it seems, except the hackers.

DICE has gotten the speedbumps sorted out now, though, and the May 2XP event starts now. Beginning today and running through May 27, all players in Battlefield 3 will receive double experience points. Just play on any ranked server in that 96-hour window and rake in the rewards. For exact start times, DICE has thoughtfully included a worldwide announcement clock here.

If you happen to be slogging through the levels in search of your next unlockable, spending some time in the servers this weekend will save you a bucket of time. You can RSVP on Facebook, if that sounds like your kind of thing, or just log in and start shooting.

If Battlefield 3 has lost its luster for you, read through our wishlist for Battlefield 4, kick back and dream of happier days with, wistfully, less distortion.

Team Claims to Enable Modding in Battlefield 3

image

A new mod claims to unchain Battlefield 3 from Origin and enable the editing of hidden dev features.

Multiplayer shooters these days are locked down tighter than a Valve NDA. Justifiably concerned with cheating, altering any game file can lock you out of many popular titles. NoFaTe, a mod group who previously unlocked Bad Company 2, is turning their attention to Battlefield 3. Their upcoming project, Venice Unleashed, claims to enable modding, all without getting yourself banned.

As the website proclaims, “using our powerful Extension System, which exposes lots of engine/game functions and abilities, you can now create your own unique mods and gamemodes, without the need of performing complicated and game-breaking file modifications.” It seems that most Venice Unleashed is about playing around with hidden game settings. This could be anything from changing the color tint and lens flare to running servers with custom rulesets.

Venice Unleashed seems to be an emulator that runs on top of Battlefield 3. Lest you think that it’s just another tool for pirates, Venice Unleashed does require a legit, activated copy of Battlefield 3 to function. The project is currently in closed beta, because it’s important to work the kinks out when your entire Origin account is on the line. Interested parties with the requisite amount of courage (and trust) can sign up here.

Now that Battlefield 4 is on the way, perhaps the third iteration will have new life with a variety of creative mods and custom maps. Or the whole thing could get shut down with some new security measures, who knows.

Battlefield 4 entrance to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

EA has set 31 October as the local release date for Battlefield 4. Not only will it be available for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on that date, it will also be ready for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

While local release dates for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are still up in the air, EA has confirmed that the next generation editions of Battlefield 4 will be available on the same date as the current generation versions.

EA’s announcement indicates that the publisher is confident that the next generation of consoles will be available in Australia on or before 31 October.

Battlefield 4 is powered by the Frostbite 3 engine from developer DICE, with the next generation addition expected to bring an added level of visual flair, likely to been seen in improved character animations and dynamic environments.

The pre-order incentive for Battlefield 4 at EB Games will be free access to the Battlefield 4 China Rising DLC.

This DLC consists of four multiplayer maps based on the Chinese mainland where players can fight using new vehicles and high-tech military equipment.

Pre-ordering the Battlefield 4 Digital Deluxe exclusively on EA’s Origin service will include bonus in-game digital items, the Battlefield 4 China Rising DLC and access to the game’s multiplayer beta.

EA will be showcasing Battlefield 4’s multiplayer with a live demo at the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles.

Battlefield 4 Xbox One chronicle and Oct recover date confirmed

Update: EA has contacted GameSpot to clarify that its October 29 release date for Battlefield 4 does not cover the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the game. The PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and PC versions of Battlefield 4 will be released on October 29 in North America, and on November 1 in Europe.

Battlefield 4 will be released on October 29, EA and DICE have confirmed.

EA also confirmed that the game will be released for Xbox One, hours after Microsoft finished announcing the next-gen Xbox at its Redmond campus in Washington. EA announced a partnership with Microsoft at the unveiling.

The publisher also confirmed that DICE would be bringing Battlefield 4′s multiplayer mode to E3 2013. A Battlefield 4 multiplayer beta will be available later this year.

DICE also confirmed that customers who preorder Battlefield 4 will gain access to Battlefield 4′s China Rising DLC, which is set in the Chinese mainland and offers four additional maps and new vehicles. The developer offered a similar inventive with its Back to Karkand DLC for Battlefield 3, which was later offered for sale individually and as part of Battlefield Premium.

Battlefield 4 will also be released for PlayStation 4, PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. The game will not be coming to Wii U.
